Evaluation and expectations

This being a relatively large class, there will not be formal attendance taken. However, to earn a high grade attendance is required to become familiar with concepts and original texts presented in class.

Simply put, come to class, do the readings, study for the exams, and contribute to the online discussion board. Do this and you will succeed. If you fail to do the above, your grade will reflect a lack of initiative and will likely disappoint.

Graded material

  • Discussion posts (8%): During the semester, student feedback will be required through submission of several brief discussion posts to Vista. These are required and graded on a credit/no-credit basis; essays will be assigned four times during the semester to fulfill the written component of the course's GE status.
  • Three in-class exams (23% each): This course has three equally weighted exams that are non-cumulative in terms of material during the semester. The format is multiple choice, matching and true/false questions. The material includes readings, lecture and in-class texts.
  • Final exam (23%): Given during finals week, the final exam is cumulative. If you have an average of 92 or greater on in-class exams, this exam is optional. The format is multiple choice, matching and true/false questions. The material includes readings, lecture and in-class texts.
